Toki Matsuri (pottery festival at Gojo-zaka) from Aug 7 through Aug 10 at Gojo zaka.

Shunzan-gama (Sennyu-ji, Higashiyama, Kyoto) will set up a booth at north side of Gojo Street, under the first footbridge from Higashi-0oji street. Plesae visit us.

Why the festival is taken place in such hottest season every year ? Because since 1920, the market has been held during Rokudo Mairi(People in Kyoto visit Rokudo-Chinnou-ji temple to welcome ancestor’s sprits in Bon season) in order to sell dead stock of pottery products for bargain price to those visitors who come to the temple.   Bon season in Kyoto ends with Daimonji Okuribi (Fires which forms Chinese charactor at five mountains are burnt at night of Aug 16 to send off ancestors’ sprits)

You can also visit Rokuhara-Mitsuji-temple where you can see the statue of Priest Kuuya with six small amidadudda from his mouse.  Also the temple has the statue of Taira-kiyomori (military leader of late Heian Period : 1000 years ago from now ).
