Kenzan-utsushi (Kenzan style potteries)

Ogata Kenzan (1663-1743) is Japan’s most famous ceramic artist. His work has had a great influence on the Kyo-yaki/Kiyomizu-yaki ware. Kenzan, as a designer rather than hands-on potter, was able to combine pottery with the other arts such as painting, poetry, and calligraphy. Still now Kenzan style potteries are popular among those chefs of Japanese cuisines, people who loves beautiful things.
